Best Spots to Watch Chicago's NYE Fireworks

Guide • Where do I watch fireworks? • Dec 25

For Chicago's New Year's Eve fireworks, the best spots are along the Chicago Riverwalk (Upper Wacker Drive) for the main city show and Navy Pier for its separate lakeside display, with great views also from rooftop bars, lakefront parks, and even the Centennial Wheel on the Pier for a unique perspective. Expect two main events: a major fireworks show over the river and a separate one at Navy Pier, both launching at midnight.

1. Chicago River Fireworks (Central Location)

• Chicago Riverwalk/Upper Wacker Drive: The main celebration occurs here, with fireworks launched from bridges between Wells and Columbus Streets, offering great views from the riverbanks.
• Rooftop Bars: Many downtown hotels and buildings offer ticketed parties with fantastic skyline and river views.

2. Navy Pier Fireworks (Lakefront)

• Navy Pier: The pier itself offers multiple vantage points, with specific events happening at venues like Bar Sol.
• Centennial Wheel: A unique experience with panoramic views of the lakefront fireworks.
• Lakefront Beaches/Parks: Areas like Oak Street Beach or parks further north/south can provide views without the pier crowds.

Tips for Viewing

• Arrive Early: Especially for free spots like the Riverwalk, secure your location well before midnight.
• Check for Events: Confirm specific launch locations, as they can vary slightly year to year (e.g., from bridges).
• Consider Cruises: New Year's Eve boat cruises offer unique perspectives on both lake and river fireworks.
